THIS WEEK'S FEATURE

Black Africans at home and abroad prepare to celebrate the Earth day of the Prophet, The Right Honorable Marcus Mosiah Garvey on August 17th. This year in particular has shown that "John" Marcus is alive and well. The institutions that have fought against Marcus have gotten the biggest blows this year. Who do we mean? First, Firestone tire company: they used their money and power to keep the UNIA out of Liberia (in which Liberia is in total chaos) so that they could take over the land to maintain rubber plantations. Now their money cannot buy their reputation back for building faulty tires, as well as the destruction of a long relationship with the oldest car company Ford, who are now in a public battle, fyah bun. Second, the FBI (foolish bunch of idiots) who charged the Prophet with mail fraud. The FBI has had scandal after scandal this year, with the top agent being a spy himself. The coming to light of their hiding of information as well as stolen guns and computers has not helped either. It forces the question: Who is going to guard the bodyguard? Third is the total embarrassment of W.E.B DuBois' NAACP (according to Marcus: National Association for the Advancement of Certain People) in the Florida elections. 'Til this day they cannot recoup from the blow. When an R&B star like Brian McKnight starts to say publicly that voting is a waste of time, it only reflects the attitude of other young Blacks in "Black America country". The NAACP has only screamed and hollered since the event in total vain, yet they are the same group that turned down the bill to restrict monies given in public elections. This is not surprising being that this is the same group that rejected on July 9, 1966 a Black Power doctrine. Fact: Bush is now trying to legalize 3 million Mexicans before the next election so he won't have to spend a dime harassing Blacks for votes. This idea signs a death warrant for Blacks in America in general, especially when the system continues to prepare for "urban warfare." The Honorable Prophet warned the people that 40 million careless Ethiopians would go down with Babylon and everyone laughed him to scorn, well who has now had the last laugh?

Many Blacks of today have become even more destructive to themselves, for they refuse to accept that they have a Black God and that they are Black African Kings and Queens. Many Blacks prefer to be slaves to the five White corruptibles: sex, money, White women, drugs and a position. This is evident from the media/music culture to the goals that children now have, as the rapper KRS-One states in his album "Sneak Attack", that "People refuse conscious rap 'cause it does not pay the f---ing rent."

On the other hand, the few Black Africans, who have heeded to the teachings of the Prophet, Priest and King, though we suffer, are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. The black consciousness that has taken root in the firm teachings of Black African tradition has Babylon shook from head to toe. Many ask what would Marcus have done if the internet was around in the '20's? INI THE BABE AND SUCKLING say; he is doing what is being done now, blazing Rome down to ashes, continuing the fight for the repatriation/reparations, and the building of our home in Africa. We conclude with a prophecy from the Prophet, "John" Marcus Garvey:

"This is the time for Black men and women to make their distinct contribution to this civilization, and let history record it, truthfully. You have the potential, you have the vast continent---Africa. You have the scattered millions of our race in all the countries of the world coming in contact with science and technical, mechanical devices. You have the chance, all you want is the will to do, and dare others to stop you. This is my hope for you, and this is the fear others have for you. That is why they watch you so carefully that you may not get away with any progressive ideas, which would be a surprise to the world of theirs. Probably that is why I am dubbed "a dangerous man." Because I attempt to lead my race to progress, to a consciousness of its powers, from backwardness to usefulness for itself, and who is to tell what that may lead to---a shifting of power, a shifting of position---the man lowest down will rotate to the top position. It is the will of God, because the Black man is not vindictive, but benevolent and kind, the world will be a better place for all to live in and enjoy."

NEGROES

NEED STATESMEN FOR A FREE

AND REDEEMED AFRICA

We will not waste time in 1921 and 1922 talking domestic politics; we will not waste time discussing who is the greatest white man in the world. All my time, all my energy for 1921 and 1922 will be bent on the purpose of a free and redeemed Africa. No man will change my thoughts; no man will change my action for 1921 and 1922, because every bit of my energy; every bit of my ability will be given for the complete realization of this great cause of ours. And I am asking all those who are to help me to rededicate themselves with such a determination. The work must be done, because we are drifting further and further away from kinship, from association with the other races and nations of the world.

It is only a question of time when your doom will be sealed except you start out now to save yourselves. Have you read about the decreasing birth rate of Negroes in this Western world? Can you remember what I told you when I started this propaganda, that the purpose of the white man was to fool and deceive Negroes and destroy Negroes by economic depression. Economic depression is the force by which Negroes will be destroyed in this Western world, so that white civilization cannot be accused of inhumanity by slaying all Negroes at one and the same time; but by a process of starvation in 50 or 100 years the Negro problem will be solved, for the white man will be starving Negroes out for 50 to 100 years. This doctrine I have been preaching for the last four years. The prejudice against you is beneath the surface; you cannot see it on the surface; it is operating against you under the surface. Men like Roosevelt came and pretended how favorable they were to the Negro race; beneath that was the plan of starving the Negro economically. If you take bread from a man he is bound to starve and ultimately die. The plan was to flood America with a great white population---to make America independent of Negro labor; throw off Negro labor and let the Negro starve and die or leave the country somehow and the problem will be solved. That has been the plan ever since Abraham Lincoln took his pen and signed the Emancipation Proclamation. White men---thoughtful, astute, brainy white men---decided how they would get rid of this problem. "We will use them now to develop America and develop the Western world, and when it is developed sufficiently to satisfy us we will cast them off; we will tell them that they are secure; we will say everything is all right; let us be your leaders and we will lead them in the way we want them to go, so that when we throw them off they will be leaderless and it will be too late for them to save themselves."

You need statesmen at this time to think out and solve the problem that confronts you. If you go about this thing in a selfish way you are courting the doom of your children and grandchildren, because when they come upon the stage of action they will have confronting them the realization of the white man's plan of fifty odd years since emancipation, and it is for you now to call upon your statesmen and leaders to devise ways and means by which the present and future generations of Negroes will be saved. As for me, with the little insight that God has given me into things, with the little vision he has given me for leadership, I have come to the conclusion that the Negro race can only save itself when there is a free and independent Africa, because, I repeat, it is not a philosophy that rules the world, it is power---human power, human force---I mean strength, that rules the world, and the race and the nation that has that is the race and the nation which is supreme. Give power to Great Britain and she is mistress of the world; give power to Germany and she is mistress of the world; give power to the United States and Uncle Sam rules the universe; give power to black Africa, and we become the masters of the destinies of man. And that is what we want, and that is what we must get if we are going to survive.

Again I say it is a question of the survival of the fittest. Only the fittest individual will live; only the fittest race will survive; only the fittest nation will exist. And I am warning you now to prepare yourselves. Let no criticism turn you from the course you have adopted; let no prejudice, insular or national, turn you away from the great cause of a free and redeemed Africa. The question is not where you were born, the question is to what race are you belonging. Therefore I am appealing to Negroes everywhere---the sons and daughters of Ethiopia everywhere to buckle on your armor and let us march 400,000,000 strong toward the destiny of a free and redeemed Africa. (Great Applause)

ALL NEGROES NOT ASHAMED OF AFRICA

A speech given by the Rt. Hon. John Marcus Mosiah Garvey, Printed in "Negro World", 17 September 1921.

"I want Dr. Du Bois to know that all American Negroes are not ashamed of Africa; that millions of American Negroes are proud of their motherland Africa, and that they prefer to inhabit Africa than to see Africa divided among the vagabonds of the world. Why should we allow the Dutch, the Boers and others to go down into Kimberley and possess the diamond fields? Why should we allow the Portuguese to go down into East Africa and possess themselves of the land? Why should we allow Belgium to go down into the Congo and reap the profits of rubber? If it is good for the Belgians, if it is good for the Dutch, if it is good for the Portuguese, if it is good for the Boer, it is good for us Negroes who originally came from Africa. And I am surprised at the scholarship of Dr. Du Bois. I am surprised at the intelligence of the French Deputy who said that he was French first and black afterwards. I believe that as there is no prohibition in France, they are drunk. The thirty-one delegates who went from the United States of America after having suffered the effects of prohibition for so long, I suppose they became thirsty before they got into the Congress and imbibed too freely, and they were drunk when they passed such a resolution repudiating the slogan of the Negroes of "Africa for the Africans." We shall stand by that slogan, and we shall fall by that slogan. (Applause)

The New Negro is here, and the fellow who desires to lead will have to deliver the goods; camouflage will not do. Du Bois is a destroyer; he tore down, or attempted to tear down, the great genius of Tuskegee because he was not properly trained in the ways of the world to handle such men. But Du Bois will have a hard time tearing down the Universal Negro Improvement Association and Marcus Garvey. (Applause) I am going to follow Du Bois not throughout America only, but in another two and a half months I shall be in Paris, Berlin and London. (Great applause) And we shall let the world know the true feeling and the true sentiment of the Negroes of today--no camouflage, no deception; we want a free and redeemed Africa. (Applause) As we died for democracy in Europe that we never got; as we died in France and Flanders and Mesopotamia for the liberation of the weaker peoples, so shall we die fighting on the battleplains of Africa for the planting of the Red, the Black and the Green. (Applause) The world may know that and understand that to be the attitude of the New Negro, and I would advise the good white people of the world who desire to help the Negro not to help them in the belief that this problem can be solved through amalgamation of black and white; it cannot be done. It is wasted energy and a waste of money. The problem can only be solved by the development of the two races in their own way to a common standard. We are willing to help the white race develop itself along its own line, social and otherwise, and we expect them to be large-hearted enough to help us to develop socially and otherwise on our own line.

Dr. Du Bois, the smart fellow he is; the shrewd fellow he is--is deceiving a lot of people, even the N.A.A.C.P. and those loyal black folks who make it up and those good-hearted white folks who subscribe to it. In America Du Bois wants a black and white admixture which will ultimately produce new types which are neither black nor white, and he is using innocent black folks and the kind-hearted white folks to bring about his own bad idea. And I am warning Du Bois to be careful because there are sensible, probing Negroes now, and you cannot fool all the people all the time; you may fool half the people half the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time, and the philosophy of Dr. Du Bois is found out by the Universal Negro Improvement Association and we do not want to openly oppose him, but if he brings on this fight we are going to fight to a finish. (Applause) Mark well, the Universal Negro Improvement Association established a policy not to interfere with anybody, especially Negroes trying to do the best they can in their own way, but anybody who starts a fight with the Universal Negro Improvement Association will find that the U.N.I.A. is not going to stop until it finishes it. That is our attitude and we believe a sane policy for the Negroes to adopt is to develop on their own lines. We are too mixed up already; we have been mixing up for the last 350 years. Look at this audience in here now and you have about 200 different types here. You have chocolate colors; you have Buster Brown (laughter); you have tantalizing browns and mesmerizing browns (renewed laughter)--all the colors of the rainbow can be found in Liberty Hall tonight, because we have been so badly mixed for 350 years. It is time we call a halt; we want to establish a uniform type among ourselves, and that is why we want to build up a government, and when we get there we can vote what the type will be; whether it is to be high brown, low brown, mesmerizing brown or chocolate brown. (Laughter) We will take a vote and the one that gets the majority vote we will establish that as the standard color of beauty for Africa.

This is my message to you tonight. I won't keep you any longer. I think you have had enough tonight. I am only sorry for my friend Dr. Du Bois because it is really a waste of time, a waste of energy for Negroes to fight among themselves, but sometimes when a fight is forced upon you you have to carry it through, just as when the Germans started that hell-fire in Central Europe the other day we simply had to fall in and finish it, and so Dr. Du Bois went all the way to Paris to start a fight and we are now marching right up in battle array, and I tell you there will be a Marne in a short while; there will be a Verdun in a short while; there will be a San Juan Hill in a short while, because the Universal Negro Improvement Association has never yet gone down to defeat. We have pledged--we have determined that the Red, the Black and the Green shall never trail in the dust, and when Dr. Du Bois returns from Paris we will invite him to the platform of Liberty Hall to explain himself to the Negroes of Harlem, because they have charged him at the sacred bar of Negro opinion of being false to this race of ours. We shall give him the opportunity to stand at the same bar and extricate himself from the charge if he can. (Applause)"

THE GLOBALIZATION WAR CONTINUES...

September 29, 2001 will be the East Coast meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. The past meetings which have been held in Seattle, Washington and Genoa, Italy were both disrupted by the peoples protest. Using these past meetings as precedence, Washington, DC is setting up its own plan of action to keep peace or to bring war. The first action by the police was to deny the people who choose to protest a permit. (It is crazy for citizens to have to get permission to speak out against those who mean them harm.) The denial of permits is being appealed in the court by the organizers of the protests. It has also been reported that the DC police will build 9 foot walls in the downtown area to stop protesters from entering certain areas. Other actions are being mounted as the media continues to portray the peoples protests as unruly and violent.

These public demonstrations are no different than any other protest in history where the poor is fighting to be heard. Instead of taking heed to what is being said, the animosity continues to build on both sides. It has now grown where it has produced its first death in Genoa, Italy, where a young protester was shot in the head and then ran over by a police car. Still no one realizes that outside of these protests (which are attended by the youth of America/Europe), there are protests being carried out by the people directly affected by the policies of the IMF and World Bank. An example of this is a documentary televised on PBS, called Life and Debt, which opened the camera lens to the tragic downfall of Jamaica because of "slave zones" (free trade zones). These zones were set up to let multi-national corporations have a state within the island of Jamaica that does not answer to the government or to the people. Most Jamaicans who work at these plants are being paid $15 US Dollars per week (In Jamaica currency--which has been devalued). In some instances, many have not been paid and have no recourse in obtaining their meager pay. Around the globe, in Mexico (NAFTA)and Asia, there are many people working for less and suffer the same working conditions. Let us not forget the prison population in the US which also serves their purpose in globalization.

The IMF and World Bank loans money to small countries with stipulations that can only hurt. Their policies are very bias when it comes to how they assist European countries, like Russia. Russia was granted $22 billion in the 1990's by this institution. In which they were given $4.8 billion to help strengthen the Russian Central Bank. In 1998, the Russian economy happened to "crash", which then caused Russia to be in the position to rebuild its economy from scratch with the investments of these institutions. It is now reported that out of a $37 billion loan, Russia has paid the majority and has $10 billion left to pay. Let's do the math. How can this country which was bankrupt in 1998 only owe $10 billion in 3 years? Yet there are African countries, Caribbean Islands, and all other "Third World" countries that are still tackling interest on their loans. Did Russia happen to get debt relief through a crash?

To the ordinary person who has the money to buy products, we should realize that all the discounted products are being offered through slave labor. Once we are tax paying citizens or shop in big discount chains, we must be aware that we also have a hand in this tragedy. The irony is most people are surviving because of the discounted system (Oh what a tangled web we weave when we live in a world that deceives).

The system of corporate globalization, like all systems, has its good and evil. This can only be changed when humanity has priority over monetary gain. As well as there should be a peoples globalization which should bring balance and educate the people on how to make their own global connection and be as prosperous as their will can allow them.
